MORE THAN AN INVENTOR

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. – Genesis 1:1

It takes a high level of wisdom to invent anything, whether it’s something as simple as a kite or hand fan, or something more complex like a light bulb or car engine. Thank God for the wisdom He gave people like Benjamin Franklin who discovered electricity and Thomas Edison who invented the electric light bulb. Imagine what our world would be like if there was nothing like electricity. Can you remember those days when we could send letters only by post? Can you remember how restrictive communicating with friends and family was when we didn’t have mobile phones? Technological inventions like the calculator, microwave, smart phone, iPad, online banking and credit cards have certainly made life much easier. Kudos to these brilliant inventors.

Genesis 1:1 tells us God created not invented the heaven and the earth. An inventor works with what is already in existence to develop a device, theory, or process. Most of those who have come up with remarkable inventions and historical breakthroughs actually went through a trial and error period before coming up with something stunning and sublime. But when God created the heaven and the earth, He created something out of nothing. Hebrews 11:3 tells us that “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” God is the only One that can bring something out of nothing. People may have told you that you are nothing or will amount to nothing. Your business, career or marriage may be nothing today. It could be empty, without form and void. Nothing may be happening in your life or going right in your life, but when the God of Creation of comes in, He brings something out of nothing; He brings out a testimony from the least expected source, He brings beauty out of a seemingly obvious mess.

When God created the heaven and the earth, He didn’t have to go through sleepless nights cracking His brain on how to create light. He didn’t spend months or years in a laboratory room experimenting with different options before He finally discovered how to create light. God knew the exact thing to do for there to be light. He spoke a word and all the works of His creation came into existence. This is one of the reasons why God desires a close relationship with us. To save us from guess work, to save us from trial and error in our business, marriage and ministry. Indeed, trial and error is a tested and proven way of learning or making discoveries, but when it comes to everyday life, you don’t want to try something that could be a costly mistake. You don’t want to go ahead and try a good idea only for you to lose all your money or even your very life. At every point in time because God is a Creator not an inventor, He knows the precise step to take that will lead to progress. This is why we should have Him as our personal Friend and Daily Guide.

PRAYER

Creator of the Universe, I call upon you today. Please bring something out of nothing in my life. If anyone can do this, You can. Fill me where I am empty. Give shape and form to every area of my life where I am struggling and things are yet to take shape. O Lord, guide me so I don’t just keep moving from one ‘good’ idea, business or relationship to the other. Guide me into Your perfect will for my life.
