Someone Better Than Father Christmas

One of the high points of Christmas for children is receiving gifts from Father Christmas. Children look forward to going to shops, birthday parties or any festive event where Father Christmas will be present to give out gifts. Father Christmas is widely loved by children all over the world because he is seen as a gift-bringer and who doesn’t love receiving gifts?

Though Father Christmas is very popular with children, he doesn’t hold as much importance in the eyes of many adults or grownups. If you go down memory lane, you will discover that certain Christmas traditions and activities which you thought you could never do without are no longer dear to your heart or considered worth participating in. You can outgrow Father Christmas, but you can never outgrow God. People can actually do without Father Christmas but no one can do without God. You can’t survive without God. Acts 17:28 tells us that it is in Him we live and move and have our being.  Without God you can’t live, move or exist.

Think of the excitement, anticipation, thrill and joy you see on the faces of children when they receive a gift from Father Christmas. This excitement though seasonal, can’t compare with the joy we have when the Father of fathers gives us a gift. We know from Matthew 7:11 that God like any earthly father gives good gifts to His children. But the gifts God, the Father, gives outweigh that of Father Christmas and surpasses that of any earthly father. Father Christmas can give the biggest and latest Barbie Doll, he can give you a lunch voucher for Oriental Hotel, a ticket to Dubai, or the most expensive Rolex wristwatch, but what about those gifts that money can’t buy? You can’t get joy and peace from Father Christmas or any other father. These gifts are embedded in God. His name is Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) and He fills those who put their trust in Him with joy and peace (Romans 15:13).

If you were given an opportunity to ask your earthly father or guardian or a highly influential and well placed person in society for a gift that can improve your current level, what would you ask for? Even if you ask, are you sure they can deliver that gift to you? This season, I encourage you like the prophet Isaiah did, to go to the Father of fathers, the most influential person in heaven and on earth, the Guardian and Keeper of your soul, for one of His most precious gifts and blessings which no Father Christmas or earthly father no matter how wealthy or loving can give you. In Isaiah 64:1, Isaiah prayed to God to tear open the heavens and come down. Isaiah cried to God for an open heaven because he knew the amazing things that could happen in his life and nation if God opened the heaven.

When God opens the heaven over your life, the Spirit of God will descend mightily on you, you will hear the voice of God (Matthew 3:16-17), you will receive fresh visions and revelations from God (Ezekiel 1:1, Revelation 4:1), angels of God will ascend to heaven with your prayer request and descend to earth with the answer (Genesis 28:12), the vaults of heaven will release blessings and prosperity on the works of your hands, change your story from being a borrower to being a lender (Deuteronomy 28:12), and you will receive the kind of blessing that you don’t even have enough room to contain (Malachi 3:10).

Doesn’t this sound better than any gift Father Christmas or any other father for that matter has to offer? You have to queue up in a particular place to get a gift from Father Christmas, but with God, right now where you are, you can receive the divine package God has for you.  God says ask now for open heavens and you will receive it. Seek and desire with everything in you for the spiritual heaven over your life to be opened and you will find and experience open heavens. Knock, keep knocking, don’t give up after the first few knocks, knock until you see the doors of heaven flung wide open to you (Matthew 7:7). The key to receiving open heavens is to stay in the place of prayer and deep communion with God. Jacob, Elijah, Isaiah, Ezekiel, John and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, all received open heavens while they were involved in sincere, intense and passionate prayer to God.

This season God is calling you to the place of prayer, God is calling you to a time of intimate fellowship with Him. As you stay in the place of prayer, you position yourself to receive God’s greatest gift; the love of Jesus. You position yourself to receive the blessings that are poured down from the throne room of God when the heavens are open.
