Speak to that Mountain
“So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” – Mark 11:22-23
In this Bible passage, Jesus spoke about faith and prayer in relation to mountains. Jesus explains here that a mountain can move, if someone is speaking to it. Mountains don’t move on their own accord, it takes prayer and words of faith to move a mountain.
Mountains are prominent. Even from a distance, mountains are visible. This is because they are usually on a higher level than all the other things around it such as the land, grass, trees, valleys, seas, houses and so forth. There are some problems in our lives that are prominent; not the kind you cry alone about in your house and nobody has a clue about what you are going through. This kind of problem is known to so many people even without you telling them you have such a problem. For example, in Luke 13:11 we are told of a woman who had been crippled for 18 years. She was bent over and could not stand straight. She didn’t need to tell you what her problem was, as soon as she stepped into a place, people knew what her problem was. It was a problem in her life that she couldn’t use nice clothes, a polite smile or a maze of activities to hide. One way or the other, people got to know about her problem.
Picture a skyscraper. They are so tall that all the other buildings around them appear so insignificant. It’s the skyscraper that catches your attention. That’s how our lives are. There are some things in our lives that are like mountains or skyscrapers. We may have a number of things we need, issues we are dealing with, problems we pray about, but there’s this particular thing that just shoots high above drawing people’s attention to that area of our life, the same way a skyscraper or mountain arouses people’s attention. It’s the one thing that makes people ascribe a negative label to us like Blind Bartmeaus (Mark 10:46-52), the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25), the woman caught in adultery (John 8:3). It’s the one thing we desperately need to get God’s attention and receive divine intervention. For some people it’s a health challenge, for some others a financial difficulty, while others have marital or family problems they are battling with.
Is there a mountain before you; a prominent problem that no matter how hard you try, you can’t hide it, mask it or cover it up? What did Jesus say we should do about such problems; such mountains? Cry about them? NO! Complain about them? NO! Allow their size intimidate us, scare us, overwhelm us and make us give up? NO! Treat it as beautiful sight or wonder of nature that you just admire and leave it as it is because you don’t want to tamper with it? NO! NO! NO! This mountain needs to be seriously tampered with, it needs to be ruffled, it needs to be destroyed. The mountain Jesus spoke about isn’t for sightseeing, this mountain must be moved by prayer and faith. Don’t stay silent when there is a mountain before you, speak to the mountain; speak to the problem to move.
As you pray and speak to that mountain, believe that God loves you enough to make that mountain level ground. As you pray and speak to that mountain, believe that no mountain is too big or difficult for the hand of God to move. As you pray in faith and address the mountain in your life, believe that the power of God will melt this mountain. As you hold on to God and speak His Word into that situation, believe that before any mountain was brought forth, the Ancient of Days had been in existence and He has enough wisdom and experience to crush any mountain. Your place is to speak in faith, God’s work is to move the mountain the way He deems best. Don’t worry about how God will move the mountain, be more concerned with building your faith and strengthening your prayer life, be more concerned with what comes out of your mouth whenever there is a mountain or difficulty before you.
Today, I join you in faith to pray that every mountain before you that has brought you pain, shame, heartache, stagnation, depression and anxiety, any mountain that has made you feel rejected, abandoned, unattractive, worthless and of no good will end up in the sea. Jesus said cast that mountain to the sea. Today, in the name of Jesus the wind of the Holy Spirit, the power of God will force that mountain out of its secure position and take that mountain, problem or challenge far away from you. This season Your God, the Leveller and Bulldozer of Mountains will your heart with joy in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
