Standing Before God

‘Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.’ – Psalm 1:5

If someone should ask do you know God, believe in God, pray to God, worship God? Many of us would quickly say YES. Yes, I know God, believe in Him, pray to God, worship God. But if we were asked can you describe God to me, how does God look? We may hesitate a bit, stutter or be at a loss for words. A reaction we would never give if someone were to ask us can you describe your spouse, child, mother, father or boss to me? Very quickly, without thinking, we would start pouring out the words…he is tall, not too dark, or she’s a bit on the plumb side, she’s light in complexion etc.

The truth of the matter is that even though we regularly stand before God, we can’t actually describe God’s physical features because God is spirit. It is because we don’t see God with our physical eyes that we may not pay much attention to the number of times we actually stand before this unseen, yet very real and living God. In our personal times of prayer and worship, we are standing before God (Genesis 19:27, Exodus 3:5, Mark 11:25). When we are in the gathering of believers, at a church service or fellowship of believers, we are standing before God (Matthew 18:20). In fact, when we are sleeping, bathing, eating, going on a walk, committing a secret sin or doing something that will bring joy to another, we are before God. David said in Psalm 139:7 you can’t ever run away from God. We are continually standing before His watching eyes. Then Psalm 1:5 tells us of a time we will all have to stand before the judgement seat of Christ. So, there’s no escaping standing before God. One way or the other, one day or the other, we will stand before God.

There are certain attitudes and lifestyles that can’t stand tall and bold before God. Psalm 1:5 tells us that the ungodly; a person whose lifestyle has no room, regard or respect for God can’t stand, can’t make it through the judgment seat of God. This is why on a regular basis, we must ask God to totally destroy every form of ungodliness in us and everything at all that will not allow us pray, worship, serve, go about our day to day business, or more importantly, stand before the judgment seat of God with confidence.

PRAYER

Father, whether will not make me stand with confidence before you, please remove from my life today.
