Unexplainable Ways God Blesses

Every parent eagerly looks forward to the day their baby will say their first word, which is usually mama and dadda. Naturally, any parent would get worried if by two or three years your child can’t say a single word. This is because being able to speak well is important for our entire life. There’s nothing strange about people talking, this has become a natural part of everyday life. It is when a person can’t talk at all that it is seen as something strange. There’s nothing strange about animals making sounds like when you hear a cat say meow, a dog bark woof, woof, and a horse make some neigh sounds.

What is strange, what is hard to understand, what needs some explanation and clarity is how a donkey can speak intelligibly like a human being. In Numbers 22:21-39, we read of an incident in the Bible that appears like something we see in fairy tales and cartoons, something that can be passed off as an unbelievable or untrue story. But it is true! God made a donkey speak. When Balak summoned Balaam to come and put a curse on the Israelites, on his way to curse the Israelites, God put an angel on Balaam’s way to oppose him. It was Balaam’s donkey that saw this angel with a drawn sword and in fright turned away. Wherever they turned, the angel was there. After enduring a lot of beating from Balaam, the donkey did the unimaginable. He said these words, “What have I done to you, that you have stuck me these three times” (Numbers 22:28)? And this was how a conversation took place between Baalam and a donkey. God made the donkey speak because God wanted to be the One that would control and influence everything Balaam said and did when he got to Balak. God made the donkey speak because of His love and care for the Israelites. He didn’t want Balaam to curse those God hadn’t cursed. God’s plan for the Israelites was to be blessed and not cursed. To fulfill this purpose, God who is in control of everything and everyone, including times, seasons, kings, kingdoms, animals, the winds, the seas and everything in nature, used a donkey to pass across a message. No human explanation can be given for how the donkey spoke that day. When God is out to bless, He does it in a way that it is hard for the human mind to comprehend. The way God saves, helps, protects and blesses His people is indeed a mystery.

What is even harder to comprehend and explain is how blood can speak, how blood can have a voice. Hebrews 12:24 tells us that we have now come “to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel”. This scripture tells us that blood of Jesus speaks and it speaks better things. The blood of Jesus is not a voice of condemnation, but a voice that cries out mercy, forgiveness, favour, protection, goodness, acceptance, promotion, prosperity, healing and wholeness. The blood of Jesus speaks health not sickness and death. It speaks good success not failure, joy not shame and sorrow. God has given a voice to the blood of Jesus because of His great love for us and desire for us to be blessed. There are so many voices speaking things that are contrary to what God has spoken about us. It is the blood of Jesus that God uses to silence and negate every tongue rising in judgment and condemnation against us. You can’t explain with natural wisdom and philosophy how the blood of Jesus speaks better things into our lives, how it works to ensure we are blessed of God. This is a mystery of God.

God can go to any extent to bless us. What is the human explanation for how God brought water from a rock so the Israelites didn’t die of thirst, how God parted the Red Sea to make a way where there seemed to be no way, so the Israelites could pass on dry land? What is the connection between people shouting and the wall of Jericho falling down flat? What is the science that can explain how a man who had been dead and smelling for four days came back to life by Jesus simply calling him out of the grave? The things God does to bless His people are mysteries. We are indeed deeply loved by God. No wonder the Psalmist said “What is man that you are mindful of Him?” (Psalm 8:4). The ultimate mystery God has done to ensure we live a blessed and fulfilled life is the sacrifice of His Son on the cross for our salvation. How One man’s death can bring salvation to everyone is a big mystery to the rulers, principalities and powers of darkness, that if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:7-8).

From the moment we were created, God’s plan for us was to be blessed (Genesis 1:28). To bring this plan to pass, God does things that are beyond human understanding. I pray that in this season, God will arise on your behalf and give you a testimony that no eye has seen, no ear has heard of, no mind can imagine, comprehend and explain.
