Protection and safety are fundamental needs for everyone. Regardless of wealth, age, religion, or background, people want the assurance that they can go out without fear of being attacked or assaulted. Whether you are traveling by road or air, you want to be confident that your trip won’t be interrupted by kidnappers or terrorists, or you won’t end up as a victim of a ghastly accident or plane crash.
At night, you wish to sleep soundly without the worry that thieves or armed robbers might break into your home. When attending events such as weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, or family get-togethers, you want the reassurance that your belongings—such as your car, phone, or money—won’t be stolen.
Many people invest significant amounts of money in hiring police officers and armed security personnel to guard and patrol their homes or offices. Others opt for guard dogs, CCTV cameras, and GPS trackers to monitor the locations of their vehicles and personal items in case they are stolen or go missing. Today, alarm systems, bomb detectors, and the latest high-tech security gadgets are commonly used in residences and workplaces to prioritize safety. Additionally, some individuals wear charms and various types of amulets, believing these will protect them from harm and danger.
Psalm 91:5-6 emphasizes that there are real dangers in life. These verses suggest that there is never a completely safe day or a time without trouble. At night, we face the terror that comes with darkness. During the day, we encounter various threats, represented by arrows flying around. In the dark, there can be pestilence, and at noon, there are destructive forces that can ruin lives. In the face of all these impending dangers, God assures us of His protection. He says to us, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).
The secret place of the Most High is a secure dwelling place in times of insecurity and uncertainty. It is a place of refuge, a shelter of protection from danger, distress, and calamity. When the storms of life strike, when you are going through tough and difficult times, the secret place of God is the place to go to find peace, calm, safety, and security
As we spend time with God and engage in regular fellowship with Him, we come to realize that He is our Keeper, our Rock of Refuge, our Fortress, and our Hiding Place. He serves as the Protective Shade at our right hand, our Stronghold, and our Defense. We come to know Him as a Strong Tower to which we can run for safety and security.
The protective gear and gadgets of God never fail. We wear clothes to protect us from the cold, but our clothes can get torn, burnt, or stolen. When God covers you with His shield of protection, nothing can happen to this shield. God’s shield of protection can’t be stolen, spoiled, or damaged.
God is the only Guard that never takes a short nap, oversleeps, goes on a short break, takes a day off, or neglects and abandons His duty post. God guards twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. God’s security watch is endless, with no shifts or changeover, and He doesn’t receive a dime for it.
When you are in the secret place, when you are under God’s wings of protection, thousands of people may be dying, attacked, but for you, it’s a different story. You only hear about the danger and destruction affecting many lives; you don’t experience it. God sends angels to take charge of the roads you pass, the planes, cars, buses, and buildings you enter. He instructs you through dreams, revelations, impressions, and promptings in your heart not to pass a certain road, attend an event, go on a particular trip, or enter a particular bus or plane. He puts on you the mark of Christ, the mark of the blood of Jesus, so no man, devil, or demon can trouble you and get away with it. God makes those who have dug a pit for you fall into the exact pit while you escape the pit. God gives your enemies a taste of their own medicine. He makes their plans boomerang!
The secret place of the Most High is where we can find safety in an unsafe world. Have you been dwelling in that secret place? Are you spending quality time with God, or do you only come into His presence when you have a problem or a pressing need? Remaining in God’s presence is essential for receiving divine protection. It fosters an intimate and stronger relationship with God, helping us recognize His voice and hear His instructions clearly. These instructions can safeguard our lives, families, and belongings.
Don’t distance yourself from God; make time for the secret place. Come to the secret place where you will be kept under the shadow of the Almighty, covered by His feathers, and find refuge beneath His wings.
