Woman, Clothe Yourself with Power

Women just love clothes and accessories. We love to accessorise.  Red bag and red belt on a black outfit. White bag and brooch on a blue outfit. Orange neck scarf on a brown outfit.  Looking good is important to most women. We put in so much effort to look good when we have to attend that wedding, cocktail party, praise concert, baby’s 1st birthday…you name it.

How a woman should dress is one big controversial issue amongst Christians. Too much arguments and attention go into our outward physical appearance we seem to have forgotten or completely neglected the spiritual dress code for women. By dressing from inside out, from the internal to the external, we would be properly guided on what to wear and have less problems and issues. I believe when we get up in the morning, have a bath and start getting ready for work, the market, school runs or wherever it is you have to go, the first thing we should think about is not whether to wear a pink top or green top today, whether to repeat the outfit you wore some three weeks ago or wear something completely new. Our first concern should be am I spiritually dressed for the day?

In Luke 24:49 just before Jesus was to ascend to heaven, He told His disciples something very instructive. He said, “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high”. Jesus was intentional about the words He used. He said you need to be clothed with power from on high. In other words, you should wear a cloth of power; you should be dressed in the power of God.

Clothes serve as coverings. They keep you from being exposed. They cover your nakedness. If we are not clothed with the power of God, we are not properly covered. The power of God is a covering.  It shields you from countless dangers. It covers your nakedness; your weaknesses, your past and failings.

Psalm 105:15 says “do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm”. You may read this and say well I’m not a prophet. I’m just a simple house wife, banker, receptionist or grandmother. Jesus has made us all a kingdom of priests to serve God wherever He places us (Revelation 1:5-6). Women, we are God’s servants to serve Him not just in the church but at home, work, when we go shopping or attend any event. And the dress code for servants of God irrespective of where they find themselves is to be clothed with the power of God, to have on and carry the anointing of God.

There are so many things that want to touch and harm us women. Breast cancer, cervical cancer, depression, sexual harassment, gender bias in the workplace, poor work-ministry-personal life balance, not to mention betrayal, infidelity in marriage, delay in marriage, infertility, heartbreak, bitterness and unforgiveness from clinging to past hurts, fear of the known and unknown.  How do we overcome all these? We dress up each day with the power of God. We ‘stay in the city until we have been clothed with power’; we stay in the presence of God until we are soaked and saturated in the power of God. The result of this is that when any of these things want to touch us, God can shout out loud and clear- Cancer, don’t you dare touch this daughter of mine, depression you can’t come near this one. Sexual wolves, predators and rapist don’t you dare lay a hand on this daughter of Zion. She is my anointed; she’s wearing on my power.

Take a good look at yourself today. You may be carrying a lovely Gucci bag, wearing Versace jeans with a nice yellow Ralph Lauren polo top, but are you covered in the power of God? Now more than ever before we need God to cover us with His power so we are shielded from evil eyes and hands, we can overcome and rise above our weaknesses and make a difference for God.

PRAYER

O Lord, I don’t want to live an empty, ordinary life. I need Your power. Baptise me afresh with the Holy Spirit and let my life be immersed in the power of God. Remove everything in my life that distracts me from Your presence and stands in the way of my being filled with Your power. Let Your power give me victory over all the enemy has planned for my life and family this year. Let Your power strengthen me in my inner being to keep pressing on and never give up no matter what comes my way. Thank you for hearing me for I have prayed in Jesus mighty name. AMEN!
