THE SAME GOD

‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.’ – Hebrews 13:8

Sometimes in life we are faced with situations that make us question the authenticity of God’s Word. We wonder, are those wonderful accounts we read in scripture of David killing Goliath (1 Samuel 17), Daniel being thrown into the lions’ den and God shutting the mouth of the lions’ (Daniel 6:16-24), Shadrach, Meshach and Abednedo being placed in an exceedingly hot fiery furnace (Daniel 3:13-30) and not even a strand of their hair getting burnt mere stories or fables. Do such things still happen especially in our own days?  We are like Gideon who asked God ‘If the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about…’ (Judges 6:13). In other words, we can’t see anything to make us believe that all those things we have read in the Bible are true, we can’t see anything to convince us that miracles still happens, God still does the unbelievable.

The Bible in Hebrews 13:8 tells us an undisputed truth about God. God is unchanging; He is the same yesterday, today and forever. If He did it before, He can do it today. If He did it yesterday, He can do it today. Yesterday He parted the Red Sea, today He can make a way where there seems to be no way. Yesterday He brought down the walls of Jericho, today He can bring down every opposition and obstruction to our progress. Yesterday He answered Elijah’s prayer by fire, today He can answer us speedily. Yesterday He brought Lazarus back to life, today He can turn around every hopeless situation in our lives. Yesterday He hid Moses in a basket so Pharaoh wouldn’t get him, today He can hide us from every person, force or power of darkness that wants to cut short our lives. Yesterday He blessed Sarah with a son when her womb was as good as dead, today He can do the humanly impossible for us. Yesterday He saved the Jews from the plot of Haman to wipe them out, today He can save and redeem nations from every person, law, virus, sickness or plague that wants to wipe them out. Yesterday He didn’t condemn the woman caught in adultery, today no matter how far we have strayed, He will receive us if we come back to Him. If He did it yesterday, He can do it today.

When Gideon asked God where are all Your miracles? Where is Your power today? God didn’t enter into a long discussion to persuade or prove to Gideon that He is still a Miracle Worker. He simply told Gideon ‘Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianties. Have I not sent you’ (Judges 6:14). All God did was tell Gideon, take a step of faith. My miracle working power is shown forth when you walk in faith and not by sight. Take a step of faith, believe that I am with you, I am sending you, I am backing you up, and you will see great victories. So, Jesus Christ is still the same God yesterday, today and forever, but we have to believe that He is even when everything around tells us that God isn’t real, God can’t help us or come through for us, God can’t turn our situation around. Against all odds, we must believe God can, we must walk in faith and God will give us our own personal story and testimony of His miracle working power.

PRAYER

Father, forgive me for doubting Your ability. Strengthen and increase my faith so I can see You move in my life to do the same things You did yesterday; so today I can experience Your miracle working power in my life.
