Every year schools open their doors for admission and learning. Admissions are on! Register, enrol, apply now are words we often hear. And so our children; our precious gems, are admitted and registered in different types of schools. Public, private, Montessori, British standard, American standard, boarding, day, you decide which to pick from the list. In settling school fees and bills, some parents rob Peter to pay Paul, some pay through their nose, many end up living from pay cheque to pay cheque. Is education overrated?
Education is important, learning is needful in raising great minds, but there is a school that whether you approve of its curriculum, agree with its learning methods, or even bother to apply to the school, your children are already registered students of this school. It’s funny, though, this is the only school where child, parent, grandparents and even great-grandparents if they are still alive, are all registered students of this school. Life is a school, a school that’s always in session. A school where habits are learned, some good, some bad. A school with some tough but necessary lessons to learn, a school with classes and courses you may have to take for years to fully understand and appreciate its principles. Life is a school where your exam scores aren’t pasted on a notice board or your report card formally handed over to you, but you can be sure that your grades are being entered in an unseen record sheet.
In some schools, teachers are paid peanuts and this affects their performance and effectiveness. But there are those teachers whose motivation and performance isn’t tied to a figure. They love teaching, give their best, and produce outstanding students irrespective of their salaries. Indeed in any school, teachers matter. Being taught by an effective teacher can boost a child’s performance. Our children irrespective of their ages are already being taught by teachers in the school of life. The school of life has an extensive list of teachers. School teachers, parents, siblings and other family members, friends, associates, people you watch on TV or read about in books, pleasant experiences, bitter experiences all have a way of passing across a thought, idea, lesson or teaching our children imbibe. Are our children actually learning helpful and positive things from the teachers life exposes them to? I recently had to pray, Lord, let your fire consume in me any act or thing that doesn’t make me a good example for my children to follow, because truly, our children are learning from us even though they don’t pay any fees to sit in our classroom.
In the school of life, there’s One Teacher’s classroom every parent must ensure their children go through. A few days ago, the Lord began to minister to me about having the Teacher of teachers as my children’s Personal Teacher. Speaking of the Holy Spirit in John 14:26, Jesus said, “But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”. The Holy Spirit is the only Teacher who knows all things. Our children may have in their schools teachers who are friendly, have a good personality, have passion and understanding of the subjects they teach, but these teachers don’t know all things, these teachers certainly don’t know all the things God wants to do in and through our children. So while we put in so much time, money and effort in picking a school with good teachers, we shouldn’t neglect the Teacher of teachers. He is the only Teacher that knows how to deal with and get across to every kind of student. He is the only Teacher that in spite of falling educational standards or recession still has a well-stocked, up-to-date library on every subject imaginable. He is a teacher who gives priceless lessons yet He doesn’t need an increase in His salary to stay motivated or stay on the job. This Teacher never goes on leave or applies for sabbatical. This Teacher is simply the best you can ever get in the school of life for He understands complex subjects even experts, Professors and PHD holders are clueless about.
Boost your child’s performance, potential and confidence today, pray for your children to be under the tutelage of the Teacher of teachers.
Father, please reveal Yourself to my children and let Your Spirit, the Sweet Holy Spirit, be their daily Teacher and Guide. Holy Spirit, teach them about God, His Word and Ways. Whisper words of comfort into their ears when they are sad, hurt, confused or scared. Help them discern evil and flee from sin. Help them to walk in obedience. Help them to know and speak the truth. Father, please don’t let my children sit under any class or teacher in the school of life that will lead them astray, into error, or place their lives in danger. In the school of life, let the destinies of my children not be diverted or their glory exchanged, let them not be given another person’s school bag and books to carry; let no evil load be placed on their heads. Let them not carry over or retake sicknesses, negative traits and problems from their ancestors and lineage. Father, when marking their scripts in the school of life, please use the marking criteria of Your mercy and grace. Make my children life-long candidates of divine favour, in Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen and Amen.
