Avoid Ungodly Counsel

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly (Psalm 1:1).
The counsel; advice and suggestions people give us can make us or mar us. This year we need to be careful about the advice we follow. Not every counsel is from God and of God, even when it is coming from a child of God. Not everything influencers, celebrities and popular figures do are examples to live by. When God counsels; advices and instructs you on what to do, when you follow the way and example of Christ Jesus, you can be sure it will put you on the right path and bring blessings your way.
If we want God to bless, favour and prosper us this year, then we must avoid ungodly counsel. In 2 Samuel 13, Amnon, David’s son was advised by his friend Jonadab to rape his sister. This ungodly counsel Amnon followed brought so many family squabbles and problems to David’s family.
Proverbs 13:20  tells us that ‘He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed’. In the Bible a fool is often used to describe or refer to a wicked person, someone who does not acknowledge and respect God, someone who has no regard for the Word of God and who follows a path contrary to way of the Lord. Friends like these are to be avoided or like it happened to Amnon, they will get you to do things that take you outside of God’s will and plan for your life.
As we look to God to release His blessings on us this year, we must ensure that ungodly counsel has no place in our lives. We must resist and avoid following advice, suggestions and examples that do not glorify God.
PRAYER
Lord, this year keep me from following advice, suggestions and examples that do not glorify You. Help me not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly.
